Immunotherapy for Allergies

Dr. Vidyasagar Dumpala

Immunotherapy is a treatment approach that aims to modify the immune system’s response to allergens, offering long-term relief for individuals with allergies. Allergies occur when the immune system reacts excessively to harmless substances, triggering symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and nasal congestion.

Immunotherapy involves exposing the individual to small, controlled amounts of the allergen to build tolerance over time. This can be administered through allergy shots or sublingual (under-the-tongue) drops. The gradual desensitization helps the immune system become less reactive, reducing allergy symptoms and the need for ongoing medication.
